Gaylord Lawyer Daniel J. Harris

Daniel J. Harris

Daniel J. Harris received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Grand Valley State University with an emphasis on both philosophy and communications. He received his law degree from Michigan State University, College of Law and graduated cum laude. He further participated in the moot court and trial competition teams while in law school.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Harris has focused his practice on representing personal injury victims and criminal defense. For the first few years of his career, he engaged in both public defense and court appointed cases. This gave him experience in the courtroom and many jury trials in these areas. Mr. Harris was elected to serve as the President of the Emmet - Charlevoix Bar Association. He also was a guest speaker at the Michigan Trial Lawyers annual conference in Dearborn, Michigan on the subject of "How to Obtain a Jury Verdict in a Premises Liability Case". Mr. Harris is further a member of the Michigan Association for Justice.

Mr. Groat is a native of Petoskey, Michigan and is a 1996 graduate of Petoskey High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 2000. Mr. Groat graduated with a law degree (Juris Doctor) from Michigan State University College of Law in East Lansing, Michigan in 2003.

While at Michigan State University College of Law, Mr. Groat was admitted into and completed the Child and Family Advocacy Certificate Program, which consisted of specialized coursework jointly offered by Michigan State University College of Law and the Michigan State University Graduate School of Social Work. The Child and Family Advocacy Certificate Program is designed to strengthen the knowledge base, practice and advocacy skills for professionals interested in working with abused, neglected and at risk children and their families.

During law school, Mr. Groat spent one summer as an intern at the Charlevoix County Prosecutor's Office, where he gained litigation experience by personally prosecuting cases and assisting in the prosecution of cases. Mr. Groat also completed an internship with Legal Services of South Central Michigan, where he was assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit.

Mr. Groat was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 2003. Since that time, he has practiced law in Northern Michigan. Mr. Groat concentrates his practice in the areas of family law, wrongful death, personal injury, automobile negligence and criminal defense. Mr. Groat is also experienced in general civil litigation, business formation and estate planning.

 

 Gaylord Lawyer Kyle Legel

Kyle Legel

Mr. Legel received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1995. He received his law degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1998, and further was a member of the honors fraternity Phi Delta Phi. He participated in both trial and negotiation competitions during law school.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Legel moved to Gaylord in 1999, and worked in private practice until his election to the position of prosecutor in 2005. When in private practice, Mr. Legel concentrated primarily on criminal and family law; however, he also handled property and estate matters. In addition, Mr. Legel handled court-appointed criminal matters in both Otsego and Kalkaska counties. 

Mr. Legel won the 2004 election for Otsego County Prosecutor and was re-elected in 2008. In his role as prosecutor, Mr. Legel handled thousands of criminal matters and attended numerous national and state trainings in criminal law. 

 

Gaylord Lawyer Mark K. Connolly

Mark K. Connolly

Mark K. Connolly received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University with an emphasis in Criminal Justice. He received his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Grand Rapids and graduated cum laude. He further participated on mock trial competition teams and volunteered his free time to pro-bono legal services while in law school.

After graduating from law school in 2012, and passing the Michigan Bar Exam in 2013, Mr. Connolly has returned to his hometown of Petoskey to begin practicing law. After working for the Law Offices of Daniel J. Harris while in law school, Mr. Connolly has joined the office full time as an attorney. He plans to focus his practice on criminal defense and handling general civil actions including personal injury and auto no-fault claims.

Miranda Bailey-Quick is an Upper Peninsula native that has joined The Law Offices of Daniel J. Harris team to focus on family law, criminal law, and estate planning.
 
Mrs. Bailey-Quick received a Bachelor of Science from Central Michigan University in 2001. While attending Michigan State University College of Law Miranda Bailey-Quick received her Juris Doctor degree in 2006 with certificates in the Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Certificate Program, Criminal Law Program, and Indigenous Law Program.
 
Before joining The Law Office of Dan Harris Miranda worked with another Northern Michigan law office where she handled all aspects of law, including family law, criminal law, and estate planning.

Katie (Drury) Mott is a Boyne City native and University of Michigan alumni, who has joined The Law Offices of Daniel J. Harris, concentrating in civil litigation, probate litigation, and appellate practice.  Ms. Mott is also licensed to practice law in Florida and Kentucky.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Mott worked in the litigation department of Barnes Walker, Goethe, Hoonhout, Perron, & Shea, PLLC in Bradenton, Florida for nearly two years.  Ms. Mott also worked as a Trial Court Staff Attorney with the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida for five years. 

Before attending law school, Ms. Mott worked for eight years as a social worker, both in Detroit, helping families retain parental rights, and in Grand Rapids, assisting the elder community. 

Academically, Ms. Mott graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in January 2010 and has been a member of The Florida Bar since April 2010 and the Middle District of Florida since November 2014.  Ms. Mott has been a member of the Kentucky Bar since October 2012.  She also has a Bachelor in Arts, with a concentration in psychology, from the University of Michigan in 1998.  And, Katie graduated from Boyne City High School in 1994.

Together, Katie and her husband, Tom, enjoy outdoor activities while raising their four boys – Ty, TJ, Trent, and Tristan, and their 144-pound, German Shepard, “Sergeant.”
